Printer-friendly version

Please note, this trip is now over-subscribed and CLOSED. Thank you for your interest.

Jesuit Refuge Services (JRS) has been appointed by the Haitian Department of Education to conduct inspections of its schools. JRS is organizing teams with experience in either engineering, architecture or construction to go down.

Would you be interested in visiting Haiti for a week between mid-March and early April?

The basics:

  • Trip cost with all expenses is roughly $2000-3000 per person for a one week stay. You may of course collect donations to defray this expense. JRS may have some funds to defray this, but the amount has not be established.
  • You would need a passport and the necessary inoculations. Passports can be expedited or obtained on-the-spot at one of the dozen rapid passport agencies across the country.
  • Inspectors would need to camp in Haiti, but the level of ruggedness of the camping, and level of support services to the campsite is TBD. It is anticipated that campers would need to bring their own food. i.e. Peanut butter, dried food or other camp appropriate food.
  • ATC-20 training is required. The qualifications to receive ATC-20 training are: professional licensure or 5 years experience in engineering design, architecture, building inspection or construction. This training could be done remotely or self-guided through University of Detroit-Mercy.
